Twinning between a rural community and an urban community is new!
It's exciting and it could reap dividends for both communities. We are talking about celebrating difference and increased understanding and appreciation of each other's strengths, challenges and issues. Rural or urban - we can all broaden our horizons. We can share festivals, music, culture, life experiences, whatever we want.
Otley is already twinned with Montereau and now, a very different and nearer community would also like to twin with Otley! We have spoken to Ken Daphne, the chair of Otley Twinning Association about the idea and we also have the support of Otley Town Council.
So, who are "we"? A group of organisations from Beeston (a diverse inner city area in South Leeds) and Otley (a rural market town) would like to twin the two very different communities.
The current partnership includes:
We are particularly interested in hearing from faith groups and schools. But all community groups and voluntary organisations in Otley and Beeston would be very welcome.
