The United Nations has now announced the theme for 2010. It is "Keeping the promise: mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond."
The day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues, and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of disabled people. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the inclusion of disabled people in every aspect of life.
