Are you a voluntary or community group in Leeds? By joining VA-L your organisation will qualify for the many benefits and discounts exclusive to VA-L members. As well as keeping up-to-date with information for and about the voluntary, community and fatih sector you will have the opportunity to be fully involved with VA-L's work and will be able to have a say in how VA-L is run.

VA-L members gain discounts on a range of our services, from training to payroll and you are entitled to free job advertisting on the VA-L website and E-news. As a member you can send information to us for inclusion in the E-News, our free twice-monthly e-mail bulletin, available to all, contains up-to-the minute news, funding info, training, events and jobs.

Paid members receive our printed newsletter 'Voluntary Action Leads'. Free members can also choose to receive the printed newsletter by paying an annual subscription fee of £25. 

VA-L members also receive a range of discounts off third party services and suppliers including: CRB checks, office supplies and furniture, first aid training, tea and coffee supplies, PAT testing, telecoms and other services.

Member organisations must be part of the voluntary or third sector including social enterprises and to join your organisation must:

• be a self-governing body of people who have joined together voluntarily to take action for the benefit of the community, and established otherwise than for financial gain.
• While it does not have to be a registered charity, the aims, objectives and methods of working of your organisation must be written down in a publicly available document (and this must be submitted with your application).
• Affairs are managed by, and/or ultimately accountable to, a group of people for no economic or similar advantage.
• Activities principally benefit people in or around Leeds.
• There is a commitment to supporting the principle of equality and diversity and will not knowingly discriminate against anybody on the basis of their racial or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.
• Must not be undertaking and/or affiliated to party political activity as these activities are not eligible for membership.

Applications for membership will be approved by the VA-L Board of Trustees who meet every two months. You will be notified when your application has been approved.

Voluntary Action-Leeds (VA-L) membership is free to voluntary, community and faith groups in Leeds with an annual income below £20,000.

For groups with an income above £20,000, there is a tiered membership fee based on your organisation’s income.

*Associate Membership is for organisations outside the voluntary sector or
outside the Leeds Metropolitan District, but they must however broadly
meet the membership criteria.
