Leeds launched its involvement with the European Year of Volunteering 2011 on Tuesday 7 December 2010 by hosting an international conference at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

The conference was an opportunity to learn and to share experiences and best practice with volunteer organisations from our European partner cities: Lille in France; Dortmund and Siegen in Germany; Brasov in Romania and Brno in the Czech Republic. Representatives from all of these cities attended and took part in a wider exchange of good practice between 6 and 8 December 2010.

The launch event also brought together delegates from the private, public, voluntary, community and faith sectors in Leeds, along with representatives of the UK Government, The European Commission and Volunteering England.  The conference offered an opportunity for dialogue and debate on the issues currently facing the voluntary sectgor both in Leeds and cities elsewhere in Europe.

For more information download the Conference Report (.pdf, 1.4mb) which includes details of the speakers; themes and discussions; case studies; and; volunteering facts and figures.

The presentations from this conference can be downloaded from the International Leeds website.
