The BME Network's mission is to develop and strengthen a network of BME Third Sector groups in Leeds focusing on enabling and promoting BME representation at all levels in the city.
The BME Network has a community development approach in supporting minority community interests at strategic and grassroots levels: advocating for their concerns, and offering community groups the lead in which projects they need assistance with, whether it be management, governance or fundraising.
Sadly Leeds BME Network will close on 31 March. Their current funding, carried over from Capacitybuilders Improving Reach, will expire then and despite continued efforts no further funding has been secured.
Specialised community development support, such as that given by Leeds BME Network, is rare and perfectly suited to new, and some established, minority communities that naturally choose to access integration support from those with whom they share an affinity. It is a grave loss.
