About TSL

TSL logo

Following discussion and consultation with the Third Sector in Leeds, Third Sector Leeds (TSL) was formed in January 2010. The aim of TSL is to be the focal point for the Third Sector in Leeds to engage with and influence the decision making of key stakeholders, especially the Leeds Initiative and partners including Leeds City Council and NHS Leeds.

TSL is not an organisation in its own rights - it is an alliance of voluntary and community organisations, charities, faith groups, and social enterprises working in Leeds. It does not hold any funds nor employ any staff.

How TSL Works

Input into TSL comes from the various thematic voluntary sector networks and forums in Leeds and from engagement with the wider sector. Practically, this means networks and forums have representatives who sit on the TSL Leadership Group. TSL also holds open forums for the wider sector and co-ordinates consultations and responds to requests for information.

TSL Membership

The different inputs into TSL are brought together by members who sits on the TSL Leadership Group.  The Leadership Group is the main decision making body of TSL, it is supported by:

  • The TSL Officers

Elected by the TSL Leadership Group the TSL Officers volunteer to represent TSL and make decisions between Leadership Group meetings and set the agendas for the meetings.

The TSL Officers are: Chair - Kathryn Fitzsimons; Vice-Chair - Richard Norton.

  • Voluntary Action Leeds

Secretariat support is provided by Voluntary Action Leeds this includes giving officer support and doing TSL administration. David Smith, Chief Officer - Strategy and Engagement, gives officer support, Richard Whitmill, Project Administrator, provides admin support.

  • Working Groups

TSL working groups are created as needed to take on specific areas of work. The groups are made up of Leadership Group members along with other relevant third parties.

Influence and Representation

The work of the Leadership Group is fed back to relevant bodies, through influence and representation. TSL influences partners by drafting papers, speaking at events and attending meetings with relevant partners. One of the main ways of influencing is through representation on Leeds Initiative partnership boards. For more information about where TSL has representation see the Representation page.
