About Stringer House

Stringer House

VAL bought the premises at 34 Lupton Street in 1992 with the help of the Stringer Bequest, with the building subsequently renamed Stringer House (see our History of VAL page for more details). We have been located here ever since.

As well as being VAL's offices, and the venue for a number of our training courses, the building serves a wider function for third sector organisations in Leeds. We have 2 meeting rooms, available for hire for meetings and events. We also rent office space to tenants who work with third sector organisations in Leeds. Further details can be found on our Room and Equipment Hire page.

Stringer House History

We are often asked about the history of the building. It was built between 1913 and 1914 as the offices of Scott Walter Ltd, who at the time owned the adjoining Leeds Steel Works. The steel works closed in 1935, and from around 1940 to 1990 the building was occupied by Overend & Co Ltd, non-ferrous wire drawers.

We are interested in finding out more about the history of the building, so if you can help please get in touch.
